President Rodrigo Duterte went out of his manner to clarify his son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, has close ties to resigned Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon amid allegations by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that the 2 ran the “Davao Group” smuggling operations on the Bureau of Customs.
“You know why si Faeldon pati ‘yung anak ko kilala? I’ll tell you. Faeldon is still alive with some of the generals. Three years ago, si Faeldon, pumupunta na ng Davao. Alam nila (Police Chief Director-General) Bato (dela Rosa) ‘yan,” mentioned Duterte in a speech in the course of the oath-taking of police generals in Malacanang.
“They (Faeldon’s group) were urging me to run. Bakit hindi ko makilala si Faeldon, when Faeldon was present every meeting sa kampanya ko? Kaya kilala ‘yan si Faeldon sa pamilya ko, kilala ng asawa ko, kilala ng lahat ‘yan, kilala ng buong Davao ‘yan. Pabalik-balik ‘yan doon,” Duterte added.
Duterte mentioned Faeldon was among the many first to open his eyes on a presidential run when he visited the the mayor three years earlier than the 2016 elections.
Trillanes claimed that he has “credible witnesses” to show that Carpio visited Faeldon’s workplace twice on the BOC, together with presidential son-in-law, abogado Mans Carpio.
But Duterte refused to communicate on this particular allegation by Trillanes.
“I don’t know. That’s it for Faeldon and my son to inform — kung nandoon siya. Sabi ng anak ko, hindi siya nagpunta.
