President Rodrigo Duterte has distanced himself from the previous spouse of his son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, amid rumors she continuously visited the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
In a speech on the oathtaking of new authorities officers in Malacanang, Duterte mentioned Lovelie Sangkola was not his daughter-in-law.
“Ito namang babae ‘yang pumupunta diyan. Excuse me, she is not — she’s not my daughter. Hindi ko manugang ‘yan. Diyan nga ako nagkaroon ng sugat sa puso noon. Imagine, your 18-year-old son eloping with a 24, tapos — nahirapan talaga, hindi nakatapos,” he mentioned.
Duterte mentioned Paolo’s spouse is January, a Christian.
“I do not have a daughter by the name of Lovelie Duterte,” he mentioned.
The President mentioned he has not seen Paolo’s former spouse for greater than a decade, although his grandchildren are together with her.
Paolo has additionally been tagged by Customs dealer Mark Taguba as having ties to the so-called “Davao Group,” which reportedly accepts multimillion-peso payoffs in change for the non-inspection of shipments.
