President Duterte can order the creation of a special fund within the 2018 national budget to reinforce the needing assets within the plan to rehabilitate Marawi City, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon stated Wednesday.
Drilon stated the Departments of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Health (DOH) can make the most of their fast response fund for rapid aid operations.
The opposition senator stated that calamity funds could solely be sufficient for rapid aid efforts and wouldn’t suffice to fund to fund-long-term rehabilitation akin to reconstruction of broken amenities.
“We want funds for the rapid rehabilitation, restore and building of severely broken infrastructure, buildings and
amenities,” he stated.
“We must do everything we can to help our countrymen who have lost their homes, their livelihood and their loved ones in the midst of war. Immediate and effective aid must come to the people of Marawi whose lives have been affected so much by this terrible tragedy,” Drilon stated.
The lawmaker earlier stated the federal government can use a portion of the P15.7 billion within the national danger discount and administration fund, cross a supplemental budget authorizing the switch of funds or unused funds within the budget to reinforce the monetary necessities in rebuilding Marawi.
