Finance Secretary Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez on Thursday (May 18) confirmed that the federal government’s determination to reject a multimillion-dollar grant from the European Union got here from him.
In a textual content message forwarded by Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza, Dominguez clarified that the administration didn’t cancel any present grant from EU.
“PRRD (Duterte’s initials) approved the recommendation not to accept the EU’s offer of a grant about $280 million which would involve review of our adherence to the rule of law,” he mentioned.
“That specific grant that is considered interference in our internal affairs,” Dominguez added.
The Finance Secretary is a childhood good friend of Duterte.
At a press briefing, Abella mentioned the Department of Finance might be in charge of searching for different sources of funding for tasks that might be affected by the rejection of the grant from EU.
