SENATE Majority Leader Tito Sotto is not eager on investigating the obvious failure of Marawi City officials to prevent the Maute extremist group from stockpiling it’s arms and ammunition of their space.
He was reacting to requires the Senate to conduct a probe into the alleged failure of native executives to prevent the Maute group from bringing in excessive caliber firearms and ammunition into Marawi City.
Sotto stated the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) was the correct authority to examine the difficulty. Armed Forces chief of workers Gen. Eduardo Ano had been appointed the brand new DILG secretary.
But, the President has placed on maintain Ano’s assumption as DILG head since he appointed him as implementer of martial legislation in Mindanao. Undersecretary Catalino Cuy is appearing DILG chief.
The Maute group, with the assistance of Abu Sayyaf chief Isnilon Hapilon, seized Marawi City on May 23 to set up a “caliphate” or Islamic State in Mindanao forcing President Rodrigo Duterte to place the area underneath martial legislation to quell the rebellion.
“Unless meron kakailanganing legislation para matukoy ‘yan. hindi na siguro kailangan na sa amin sa Senado ‘yan kasi p’wedeng i-address ng DILG ‘yan,” Sotto stated.
“Tamang-tama ‘yung bagong itatalagang DILG secretary ay dadaan sa amin sa Commission on Appointments (CA). P’wede naming talakayin sa kanya ‘yan at kung ano ang plano nilang gawin diyan,” he stated.
Sotto added, “Unless merong batas na pag-uusapan na dapat na kailangan malaman natin ‘yang ganyan, eh, huwag na. Pang media mileage lang ‘yan.”
