Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV will tackle delegates to the “DDS” on Independence Day after attending actions commemorating the nation’s freedom.
The acronym “DDS” stands for Defend Democracy Summit, which can be held on the University of the Philippines School of Economics auditorium at 1:30 p.m.
Intentionally or not, the acronym can also be a play on the three letters related to President Rodrigo Duterte: The Davao Death Squad and Duterte Diehard Supporters.
The summit is organized by Kaya Natin Movement, a non-government group whose thrust is nice governance.
According to Kaya Natin!, the Independence Day summit “is a gathering of citizens concerned about the current threats to our democracy — in the broadest possible meaning of democracy as freedom from autocracy, from poverty, from massive untruth, and from national fragmentation.”
The group mentioned it has invited a number of speakers to talk about steps “towards upholding our national sovereignty, social justice, truth, and democratic institutions in these troubling times.”
