President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to give the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) the “best” equipment they are going to want even when it comes at a steep price ticket.
In a speech on the BFP’s 26th anniversary in Quezon City Wednesday (August 2), Duterte stated he’ll disregard the lowest bid rule insisted by the Commission on Audit (COA) if it meant settling for substandard equipment for firefighters.
“I will not be bound by ‘yung lowest bid kasi ayaw ko nga maging parte ako sa korapsyon, sinabi ko sa COA. ‘Don’t force me to be a party to a corruption, every transaction you go for the lowest bid, because it is always a product of corruption,’” he stated.
Duterte stated the insistence on the lowest bid rule solely ends in authorities businesses getting subpar equipment that may simply be broken.
He stated the BFP can get the equipment it wants so long as they ask for it.
“I will see to it na kung ano ‘yung nasa budget, will go to you, and you will have the best and you will have the quality that you want. You just insist on me na ‘yun and I will take your word for it and I will buy it,” the President stated.
