Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade has bucked at the perception that the breakdown-prone Metro Railway Transit (MRT) is the face of his company.

In a press convention in Malacanang Tuesday (July 18), Tugade stated the MRT is only one of the faces of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and that the company shouldn’t be judged by it alone.

“Oo aaminin ko na may problema pero dapat lang baybayin natin at tunghayan natin ‘yung samu’t-saring mukha ng DOTr,” he stated.

Tugade stated there are numerous issues affecting the MRT contemplating it’s 20 years outdated. He added that the DOTr is discovering options to make the railway system higher.

He, nevertheless, refused to enter the particulars of the strikes the DOTr is doing to enhance the MRT.

“Siyempre, ma’am, ang tatanungin mo: ‘Eh kailan?’ Ma’am, parating na ho kami diyan. Kailangan ho calculated move na tinatawag. Kasi ho ayaw kong isugal ang kapakanan, safety at life ng mga pasahero,” he stated.

“Mas bale murahin mo ako, ma’am, sa delay sa MRT pero sana huwag darating ang mga tao na mumurahin niyo kami kasi may nasaktan o may namatay,” Tugade added.
