Freedom and vindication of the charges linking her to unlawful medication commerce have been the 2 issues that detained Sen. Leila de Lima wished for on her 58th birthday Sunday.

De Lima, now in her sixth month in detention, was adamant in claiming her innocence of the quite a few drug charges hurled in opposition to her.

“Hindi ko po pinangarap na maging abogado at maging lingkod-bayan para sirain an gaming pangalan. Nakakulong man ako ngayon at pinapasan ang napakabigat na pagsubok sa aking buhay, nagpapasalamat pa rin ako nang

“Gusto ko pong malinis ang pangalan ko, hindi lamang para sa aking sarili. Para ito sa aking pamilya, sa aking ama at ina na pinalaki kaming magkakapatid nang marangal. Para ito sa aking mga anak at mga apo at sa kanilang magiging pamilya,” De Lima mentioned.

The senator remained optimistic that reality and justice will prevail and she can be exonerated of the charges.

De Lima was ordered arrested final Feb. and has been detained on the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame allegedly as a result of her receipt of drug cash from high-profile drug inmates within the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) whereas she was nonetheless secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
