Speaker Bebot Alvarez mentioned that President Rodrigo Duterte was appropriate in declaring that he would solely listen to the navy and the police on when to cease or lengthen martial law.
In a briefing, Alvarez mentioned that the Constitution mandated the President to make a report to Congress which meant that Duterte would do the speaking whereas the politikos do the listening.
Alvarez mentioned there was nothing flawed if the President took recommendation solely from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police as a result of they’ve extra intimate information of the circumstances on the bottom battalion of armchair specialists and self-styled pundits.
Alvarez mentioned Congress giving recommendation to the President was totally different from Congress’ constitutional proper to revoke martial law.
”Iba yun ha? Power to revoke. Pag ni-revoke naming, sabi ng structure obligadong sundin ng Presidente yun. Malinaw yun. Kaya lang pinapahirap natin,” he mentioned.
