Efforts to assist folks of Marawi City get well from weeks of preventing can get a lift from Congress to the tune of at the very least P15 billion, Sen. Panfilo Lacson mentioned late Monday.
Lacson mentioned Congress had slashed the quantity from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund and realigned it to lawmakers as pork.
“Rehabilitation and recovery efforts in Marawi to start. Congress should return the slashed Php15B NDRRMF fund realigned to ARMM pork,” he mentioned.
Last January, Lacson lamented the Department of Public Works and Highways regained some P8 billion in pork barrel funds slashed from its central workplace’s funds for 2017.
Worse, he mentioned the DPWH received an extra P497 million on the expense of the NDRRMF or calamity fund.
“What is unfortunate is that with massive devastations brought by recent calamities starting with Pablo, Yolanda, Karen, Lawin, Nina, to name some, most of the victims might be left to fend for themselves instead of getting sufficient assistance from the government,” he mentioned on the time.
“What is sad here is the thought of sacrificing the victims of calamities for political favors and alliances,” he added.
