Supreme Court (SC) Justice Antonio Carpio has appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to make sure the territorial integrity of the nation.
Carpio reacted to the statements of Duterte who stated he doesn’t need to wage battle with China over its newest strikes to put up constructions within the disputed Panatag shoal, also referred to as the Scarborough Shoal.
Citing Republic Act 9522, also referred to as the Act to Define the Baselines of the Territorial Sea of the Philippines, Capio identified that “Scarborough Shoal is part of Philippine national territory.”
“The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces which are expressly tasked by the Constitution to defend the national territory,” he harassed.
Because of the most recent Chinese incursion, Duterte stated that if the Philippines will go to battle with China “we will all lose our military and policemen.”
“We are a destroyed nation. We cannot even assert a single sentence of the provision that we signed,” the President lamented.
