Solicitor General Jose Calida has expressed confidence the Supreme Court (SC) will support President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 216 which declared martial regulation and suspended habeas corpus over Mindanao.

“If you ask me, I am confident. Yes, the government is confident,” Calida advised reporters after the SC concluded on Thursday (June 15) the three-day oral arguments over the petitions searching for to nullify Proclamation No. 216.

Though the final day was held in a closed-door inside deliberations, Calida stated the presence of martial regulation administrator Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and martial regulation implementor Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año helped persuade the excessive tribunal.

“I think it was a very enlighening presentation of facts and we believe this will help the government’s case,” stated Calida.

The Solicitor General famous that the data which have been introduced have been “confidential, therefore, we cannot divulge it before the public.”
