Agrarian Secretary Rafael ‘Ka Paeng’ Mariano is the newest casualty within the Commission on Appointment’s position to evaluate the health of the members of the Duterte Cabinet to steer their respective companies.
Mariano is the fourth appointee of President Rodrigo Duterte who failed the approval of the CA. The first three had been international affairs secretary Perfecto Yasay, surroundings secretary Gina Lopez, and social welfare secretary Judy Taguiwalo.
Mariano on Wednesday underwent robust CA deliberation which lasted for nearly three hours. Sen. Tito Sotto, chair of the CA’s Committee on Agrarian Reform, introduced the “bad news” in the course of the CA plenary.
“After an exhaustive deliberation and impartial scrutiny of the testimonies, endorsements, oppositions and other documents submitted, your committee called for a vote,” Sotto stated.
“In accordance with the rules, the result of which shows that the weight of the scales ultimately tipped the balance against the confirmation of the appointee,” he added.
