Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday appealed for sobriety amid the reported glitch within the system of the Bank of the Philippine Islands as she known as on BPI to launch its report on the issue instantly.

“They should come out with a report on what caused this so that people will not be left in the dark and have unnecessary worries about their accounts. They should also be able to uphold the trust given to the banking institutions,” stated Poe, vice chair of the Senate committee on banks, monetary establishments and currencies.

Amid claims of supposed hacking, Poe took observe of the preliminary assertion issued by BPI saying that an inside information processing error might have brought about the discrepancies within the checking account balances of its purchasers.

“Let’s wait (for the report). Let us not panic about this because that’s the worst thing that we can do now. I don’t think this will affect our markets. What I’m saying is they’re addressing the issue and I think that it’s good that they already came up with a statement and I think that they will fix it immediately,” she stated.

“I trust the institution. I know that BPI has been there and has proven their track record. It’s good they came up with this advisory immediately but we would like to know what caused this. Is it internal IT problem or error? Or is it an attack?” the senator added.
