President Rodrigo Duterte has blamed Maranaos for permitting ISIS to take root within the Philippines because the combating in Marawi City between authorities forces and the Maute group continues.
In his speech on the 50th founding anniversary of Davao del Sur Saturday (July 1), Duterte stated he was “angry” on the Maranaos for turning a blind eye to ISIS’ actions.
“Kaya ganon na lang ang galit ko sa mga kapwa ko na Maranao. Sabi ko, ‘Galit ako sa inyo. Bakit ninyo pinapasok itong mga p***** i** na ‘to? Why did you allow the terrorists…,” he stated.
Duterte stated the ISIS-linked maute group and its allies wouldn’t have been capable of construct an expansive armory by the years if the Maranaos didn’t enable it.
While the federal government has had intelligence in regards to the Maute group’s actions through the years, the President stated he and different officers solely realized the terrorists’ power when combating in Marawi City started on May 23.
“Over the years kasi sila nag-ipon eh. We never realized the magnitude of their preparation sa kanilang mga paputok,” he stated.
“Tapos dumating tayo doon, nakapwesto na sila at ‘yung mga snipers nila. At tayo naman, we had to practically climb upward. Pa-ganun ‘yung mga… Mataas ‘yung Marawi. It’s a hilly place,” Duterte defined.
