Ateneo booked the primary Final Four berth after a five-set thriller over Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 15-Eight, to retain the highest seed within the UAAP Season 79 girls’s volleyball event Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Eagles clinched their seventh straight semifinals look and their eighth total as they bagged their eighth consecutive victory and improved to 9-1 this season.

The Lady Tamaraws, in the meantime, fell to 5-5 and are at risk of falling behind within the race for both the third or fourth seed.

Despite pushing the sport right into a fifth set, FEU failed to finish its valiant comeback because it gave Ateneo 4 of its final 5 factors with Angelica Cayuna’s last try going out of bounds to make sure the Lady Eagles’ victory.

And regardless that Ateneo took its rightful place within the Final Four, assistant coach Sherwin Meneses mentioned the Lady Eagles are removed from peaking.

“There are still a lot of things that this team can do, they haven’t peaked yet, this isn’t their peak,” mentioned Meneses. “We’re still waiting for them to peak because these girls will still keep improving as we head to the semifinals.”

Jhoana Maraguinot led Ateneo with 23 factors whereas Mich Morente and Bea De Leon mixed for 27.

Jia Morado, who has handled the Lady Eagles like her personal private orchestra, had 39 glorious units, only one set shy of tying FEU’s total manufacturing.

Bernadeth Pons had 19 factors to steer the Lady Tamaraws.
