Senator Paolo Benigno Aguirre Aquino IV has renewed his enchantment to colleagues to approve the People’s Fund Bill that may allow taxpayers an opportunity to decide to which company they need their taxes to go.

Aquino made the enchantment amid the general public outcry over the P1,000 funds given by the House of Representatives (HoR) to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) for failing to defend the federal government in opposition to criticisms over its struggle on medicine.

“We want Filipinos to get involved in governance and the budget process. The People’s Fund Bill gives them the chance to do that,” Aquino stated, referring to Senate Bill No. 699 that he filed on July 20, 2016.

“Galing sa pinaghirapan ng taumbayan ang ginagamit na pondo ng pamahalaan kaya nararapat lang natin silang konsultahin kung paano ito gagamitin,” he added.

Aquino made the pronouncement after netizens began the “#GiveMyTaxToCHR” marketing campaign after the HoR gave the CHR a P1,000 funds for 2018.

Netizens have demanded that their tax be given to the CHR as a substitute to the PNP’s Oplan Tokhang, which was handed a P900-million funds for 2018.

If authorized, the People’s Fund Bill creates mechanisms for a person taxpayer to allocate 5 p.c of his or her earnings tax for any of the next: an accredited charity or civil society group; a precedence national or native authorities undertaking; or a authentic political get together.

Under this invoice, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) should set up the mechanism that may allow particular person taxpayers to choose beneficiaries upon submitting of their annual earnings tax returns (ITRs).
