Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno filed his courtesy resignation on Wednesday simply hours after newly-installed Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Isidro Lapeña formally assumed workplace,
In a one-page resignation letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte through Lapeña, the BOC Enforcement Group (EG) chief stated that whereas he was saddened by his choice, he believed his resignation would give the brand new BOC chief an opportunity to decide on a successor whom he trusts.
“It is my deep regret that I tender my courtesy resignation as Deputy Commissioner for Enforcement Group of the Bureau of Customs,” he stated in his letter dated August 29.
Nepomuceno was appointed as deputy commissioner in 2013 underneath the Aquino administration. He is a member of the Philippine Military Class of 1987 and served as a director and government officer on the Office of Civil Defense of the Department of National Defense. He is rumored to have the backing of the Iglesia Ni Cristo.
The new BOC chief stated that he could be bringing in some folks on the bureau to assist him implement reforms as directed by the President.
“I will be infusing some new blood that would serve as my direction, my purpose,” he stated in his message on the turn-over ceremony with outgoing Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon on Wednesday. (PNA)
