President Rodrigo Duterte’s authorized adviser on Wednesday (May 10) bucked at Senator Leila de Lima’s recommendation for the judiciary to not be “bullied” into making “unjust judgments” following the acquittal of alleged pork barrel rip-off mastermind Janet Lim Napoles within the unlawful detention case filed by her former aide and cousin, Benhur Luy.

In a radio interview, Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo stated the Court of Appeals’ determination to grant Napoles’ attraction solely proves it did its work with none interference.

“Kapag sinasabi mong bullying, sabihin mo sa mga hukuman ikulong mo ngayon, iyan ang bully. Eh wala namang sinasabi. We respect the co-equal branch—pinakikita lang diyan, bahala sila. Kanilang trabaho iyon,” he stated.

Panelo believes De Lima is making a ruckus of Napoles’ acquittal as a result of she desires to attract consideration to herself.

The Palace official expressed doubt on whether or not Napoles was responsible of illegally detaining Luy, who can be a major witness within the pork barrel rip-off circumstances, since he was capable of do some issues on his personal.

“Hindi lang nakalalabas, mayroon pa siyang telepono na puwedeng tumawag sa mga awtoridad,” he stated of Luy.

In a call dated May 5, the CA Twelfth Division granted Napoles’ attraction and subsequently reversed the ruling of the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 150 in 2015 convicting her within the case.

According to the CA, the proof was “not sufficient to establish Napoles’ participation or culpability in the alleged criminal conspiracy” to detain Luy illegally.

Despite her acquittal by the CA, Napoles will stay in detention on the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City as a result of she is going through plunder and graft charges over the pork barrel rip-off.
