Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano has matter-of-factly denied Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II’s claim that he was in Marawi City for a meeting with two different lawmakers final month.
Alejano on Wednesday (June 7) mentioned he was on the House of Representatives on the date that Aguirre mentioned he was in Marawi City along with Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Bam Aquino, former Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Ronald Llamas and native leaders.
“The records will bear out that on May 2, 2017, I was in a press conference with the House media together with the members of the independent minority. I also attended the plenary session that afternoon as reflected in the Journal of the House dated May 2, 2017,” he mentioned.
Alejano denied meeting with politikos in Marawi City, saying it has been years since he was in the world.
He slammed Aguirre for suggesting he was plotting one thing sinister with different politikos, saying he ought to have checked the details first.
“Such statement is irresponsible considering that the government has all the resources and manpower to validate any information before blurting out names in public. Aguirre’s objective is just to destroy our reputation by feeding these lies to our detractors and their paid trolls in the social media,” he mentioned.
Earlier in the day, Aguirre urged that the lawmakers might have one thing to do with the disaster in Marawi City as a result of they have been in the world earlier than the Maute group launched an assault on May 23.
Alejano, nevertheless, mentioned the Magdao group is not going to associate with a terrorist group, particularly since its members are former police and navy officers.
