Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has requested the Supreme Court (SC) to create special courts outside Mindanao to deal with the circumstances of involving members of Maute and different terrorist organizations.
Aguirre sought this in a letter dated May 29 addressed to SC Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
“In order to protect our judges and the judicial system from possible threats and acts of violence, the Department of Justice most respectfully requests that special courts in Visayas or in Luzon be designated to hear criminal cases to be filed in relation to this rebellion and other crimes which may be filed against members of the Maute Terror Group and other armed groups tagged as terrorists,” learn the letter.
Aguirre additionally requested the SC to take mandatory and acceptable actions for the safety of the members of the
judiciary who will finally hear the circumstances.
“With this in mind, justice may run its course without fear or violence and threat thereof”, Justice Secretary acknowledged in his letter.
