Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II is totally supportive of President Rodrigo Duterte’s transfer to lengthen till the top of 2017 the imposition of martial law over Mindanao.
“The request of the President is very reasonable, justifiable,” stated Aguirre.
“I believe that we should give him the benefit of the doubt, that the extension of martial law be approved by Congress,” stated Aguirre stated.
The Secretary defined the 60-day interval offered below the Constitution was not sufficient to quell the terrorist menace in Mindanao.
“Talaga naman hindi natin matatapos ng 60 days,” he identified.
The Secretary stated Duterte has sufficient intelligence info to justify the extension of the 60-day martial law interval which was supposed to finish on July 22.
“Alam naman natin na ang talagang nakakaalam, napakaraming sources of information at ng intelligence reports ay ang Presidente. Even members of Congress, ng mga members of the Judiciary, at kaming mga executive officers, limitado lang ang kaalaman namin tungkol dito,” Aguirre stated.
Duterte has already despatched a letter request to Congress asking its leaders to convene and grant the martial law extension.
